I don’t even know where to begin. It was so completely gorgeous. So I’ll simply start with a picture of my friends and I. We all met in the sixth grade and have kept in touch through moves to Colorado, Alaska and now Oregon. (I just stayed in Michigan the whole time! 😉 )
Ok, we’re not in sixth grade anymore, but we never stopped talking, sharing stories, books, music and laughing for an entire week.
Now for the coast!
This beach is a 15 minute walk from my friends, Paula and Steve’s, beachhouse. So beautiful! And it’s a very popular surfing beach. We didn’t do any surfing!
But, hiking and walking…oh yeah, we did a LOT of that!
We drove south on the coast for some fantastic views. We saw many many whalespouts. Probably migrating grays.
We happened upon Cape Foulweather on a very fair day.
And visited Cape Mearas. The shortest lighthouse on the coast. It’s up on a huge cliff…it doesn’t need to be tall.

Yay! The Oregon coast can be nasty once the rainy season hits, but it looks like you lucked out and got gorgeous weather. Where did you find the giant shark teeth?
Most of my friends in the sixth grade were military brats, so after just a year at our school, they all got whisked off to somewhere else. We didn’t even have time to exchange addresses, not that they knew where they were moving to. It was also the height of the Vietnam War and the Cold War, so military personnel were getting moved overseas as fast as they could be thrown on a jet. 😦
The rainy season arrived our second to the last day there. When we went to see Mt. St. Helens, to be exact. We didn’t see a hint of the mountain through the rain and the clouds, but the visitor’s center is fascinating. I bought two books to read about the eruption and recovery from the eruption. So many things I never knew!
We were very lucky to have several gorgeous days!
I smiled at every picture, it’s so beautiful and the fun is oozing from your faces! I’ve never been to the West Coast. Having the sun set instead of rising over the ocean might fweak me right out.

I had no idea the woman on the right in the first picture was you. I thought you were taking that shot. It wasn’t until I saw the second picture that I figured it out. Don’t make that face again, please…it’s confusing.
Hey, I was being eaten by a giant shark! Anyone would make that face.

Oh my gosh, the Oregon Coast is gorgeous! Looks like you had a wonderful time! Very cool that you’ve remained close to friends from 6th grade.
I could not believe how lucky we were with the weather. We only had rain about the last two days. We were unable to see Mt. St. Helens, or Mt. Hood. I guess I’ll just have to go back!
Nice photos. I’m not even in contact with people I knew 6 months ago, much less from the 6th grade.
I am not very good at keeping up with people I have met lately, either. Somehow the three of us have kept in touch, starting back when we had to *gasp* write letters to each other!
My wife still writes letters.
Now … whether the people getting them can actually read them is another thing …

Stunning views. That must have been wonderful. I love walking along the coast and hearing the waves crash (even if they are inhabited by skin-tight speedo-wearing seals)…….
There were surfers a lot of places, but so many of the gorgeous beaches were completely devoid of people! What a treat!

You are very fortunate to have such long-lasting friendships. I really enjoy seeing photographs of places which I will never visit, and I’m liking that these beaches are not full of people. Judging by the look of the cliffs I could imagine that Cape Foulweather would not always be so pleasant.
Apparently they have some very, um, foul weather! But, we lucked out. And the number of people on the beaches was very low. The hiking trails through the forest, also, were pretty much empty. It was a beautiful time!
