Guess who is back?

Bob and Sandy Crane!!! I was feeling blue because today was two weeks since Calli died. I did some retail therapy. Bought a birdfeeder and some toys for the cats, dogs and kids. 🙂

Came home to blog about my retail therapy, sat down and looked out the window! THE CRANES ARE BACK!!!

Bob was doing the ol’ soft shoe for Sandy. It’s so sweet to see their love dance!

The deer have been swarming across the road to eat whatever new grass shoots there might be in the front yard.

Ok, let me attempt to embed this video of the crane dance! *holds nose and jumps*

Woohoo, it worked! 😀 I am ecstatic! I’m so glad the cranes made it up here for another year! More baby cranes this year! *does the crane dance*

  2. Jessica says:

    Yay for cranes! They’re beautiful!

  3. aubrey says:

Swarming deer! Dancing cranes! Does it get any better?

  4. Drude says:

Yay Cranes!!! I was watching some swans do their equivalent silly symmetrical checking out and showing off their long necks.

  5. How wonderful! Cranes in the backyard. Though I love the pictures of all the Bambi’s too. Was it afternoon when you took that picture?

    • Lauri says:

It was late evening..they always come across the road from the forest in the late evening and the shadows are really long and the sunlight is so pretty on them!

  6. Lurkertype says:

    [this is good]

I love your yard! It’s like Wild Kingdom every day. Between that and your indoor critters, your house is like Animal Planet Live.

  7. madtante says:

    a) welcome back!
    b) I’m still thinking of you and Calli every time I cuddle bobby 😦
    c) those cranes are the shizzle
    d) yes, I said the shizzle
    e) was that the toilet running in the background of that video?
    f) what a great view you have from your bathroom window!

    • Lauri says:

      Bwahaha, madtante!
Thanks for thinking of Calli and me. Part of her is going to always be with me!

The sound in the background was the dogs playing tug-o-war with a rope. I didn’t think about it sounding like a torlet!
I was afraid there was going to be a whole bunch of grunting and growling though!

  8. pegoftilling says:

Bob: Look at me! I am strong and beautiful!

    Sandy: Oh, you.

Bob: I am a good provider! I peck like the dickens!

    Sandy: Yes dear.

Bob: And I can run! I can flap and run! And run and flap!

Sandy: Careful, honey, you don’t want to sprain something like last time.

  9. GOF says:

    Welcome back cranes!

It it incredible that you have such a vastly different view out of your windows with each changing season……last month deep snow, now shoots of green grass.

  10. pyrit says:

If the cranes are happeh, Lauri is happeh. If Lauri is happeh, everybody is happeh!

I don’t think you really live in Michigan. I still have a foot of solid snow and a nor’easter tomorroooooow!

    • Lauri says:

      Oh nooooooooooooooooo!!!
We might might might get some warmer temps by the end of the week. Might might mite. Myte.

      *wanders off mumbling*

  11. pyrit says:

Wait, I mean Friday. I’m a day off. Hee!

  12. It’s funny how plump deer look in the spring. I’d assume they’d be scrawny from the lack of greens in the winter, but maybe they’ve been noshing on people’s gardens!

Because they mate for life, cranes are considered a symbol of a happy marriage in Japanese culture. Bob and Sandy look like an older couple who still enjoy each other’s company. Very sweet!

    • Lauri says:

I know that this is at least their third year to return to our yard! Maybe their fourth!
It feels like such an honor having them return!

This is all because we fenced in our backyard about 4 years ago and the dogs can’t get into the front. That sure was a good decision!

  13. pyrit says:

Lauri, you and I both posted about cranes a day apart. 8)

  14. trishc1812 says:

Thinking of Calli having gone over the rainbow bridge two weeks ago (((hugs)))

    Cranes=Awesome
    Herd of deer=Awesome
    Dogs playing tug-o-war=Awesome.
Spring-time=new green grass and blooming flowers and green leaves=Awesome.

  15. snoringKatZ says:

It’s like Dancing with the Stars only without all the makeup and judging! Shake it, Bob-O!

  16. LBeeeze says:

I’m so sorry for your sadness. Sweet Calli. She was such a dear.

Bob and Sandy!!!! I’m SOOOO excited!!! They’re such a moral boost, and Bob is such a great dancer. Actually, they’re so good together. I can hardly wait to see pics of the new baby Cranes!!!

  17. I see Bob’s been drinking again …

  18. MsRedPen says:

What a fantastic backyard you have. Beautiful creatures!

  19. Laurie says:

Your cranes are back and on my way to work this morning, “my” mallards that nest in the concrete fountain near the symphony hall are back, too! No water in the fountain yet, and I’m still wearing my winter coat today, but surely spring is coming *now*!

And as soon as I saw the mallard couple, I thought of this post which I saw yesterday, but didn’t comment on then.

  20. Emmy says:

Yay! That is amazing. I think it’s a testament to the good energy you put into your home that they keep returning. It must be a sign of many good things, Lauri. It’s funny, with Ives being sick I was sad when I saw animal symbols, except birds. They were like a good message from the spirit world.

    • Lauri says:

That is exactly how it felt, Emmy. A sign that all is well in the universe and even if we are sad now and then, everything is still ok.

  21. CreakyGeek says:

Deer up close, and cranes? DANCING cranes?? If there is a contest for Best Front Yard Ever, you should totally enter it because you’d win hands-down.

  22. AmyH says:

How fun! It’s so nice to have them back!

  23. Aussie Emjay says:

How wonderful! You have a magical backyard.

  24. Jaypo says:

OH BOY!! Yay, Bob and Sandy Crane!!! Now we know spring is really on the way!

How did you embed your own vid? Do you pay extra for that, I thought it cost 59.00 a year for that honor…

  25. Jaypo says:

I see now–you put it on Youtube first!

He’s an elegant and graceful creature, no wonder she likes him!

    • Lauri says:

Yay, you figgered it out, Jay! I’m sorry I couldn’t answer you, I wuz at werk!

Yeah…it’s easy to upload them to youtube..and they do have a function where they can be “private” on youtube. Then embed it here.
Not as easy as Vox, but still do-able!

  26. And to think I get excited when I see a lizard or a squirrel, lol. You need an elephant Lauri. That is all that is missing. How beautiful and wonderful and special. They know they are in a good place. They can feel the Lauri in the air.
