Get out the post hole digger…

I am about to post a new post.

Ok, that was so funny I forgot to laugh. So, I am feeling a bit productive the last few days. I went out, bought paint for the family room. It has felt all dusty and faded in there lately…(yes, I could dust, but I didn’t). So I painted a couple of walls and a door. Then I told my dad I was painting. My dad loves to help, but I am sometimes so embarrassed by my messy house that I don’t ask him to come over.I am having Thanksgiving dinner here this year…probably Christmas, too, so that is what got me motivated to spiff up the room.

Dad came over today and we got about 75% of the room painted. I have two colors…a dark sand color and a maroon, which is ending up more pinky than it should. It’s called cranberry (I was telling Ashlee on IM about it and typed “crankberry”, which made me lol. It will be called crankberry from now on! I’ll think of you, cranky everytime!)

Anyhooooo, the room is partially painted, and I just ordered new drapes! So one thing leads to another, but I am feeling very good about this room and I hope this will lead to my decluttering a bunch of the house in honor of the holidays.

Whatever excuse I can use, I am going to use it!

Calli and Teagan say "It IS getting colder"

Shel, Reuben and Leo agree...

LOL @ crankberry – I think I have that colour in our bedroom! Sounds as though you had a really productive day – and exciting (ordering new drapes). Love the photo of Calli and Teagan .

  2. Kzinti says:

How many dog night is it? LOL

  3. Freedom Smith says:

Good for you, getting all motivated and getting things done. I love the pictures of your pets. There is one dog with his paw up on the window sill, looking out at the lovely view. He must be the “pensive” dog!

  4. And you decided to use dogs and a cat as decorating accessories? Good for you! All you need is a fireplace and some dried flower bouquets or those Indian corn bundles, and you’ll be set for Turkey Day.

Calli looks as if she’s saying, “Do you mind? Trying to sleep here.”

    • Lauri says:

Perfect! I have the fireplace and this year I stopped by the roads and cut cat-tails, and plume cane and dried Queen Anne’s lace….oh, dried ostrich fern, too. I stuck them in vases and winebottles and I really have enjoyed having them around the house all autumn!

  5. Emmy says:

Yay for decluttering! I have these days where I’m manic and get tons done, followed by weeks of moping and generally feeling sorry for myself / avoiding the mess. But on the upside I’m becoming one of those people who use silly terms like “boysenberry fizz” to describe colors.

    • Lauri says:

      Ooo, boysenberry fizz!
I am often compelled by the names of colors to buy nail polish, or paint. I love clever names!

      • if you happen by a store that sells those tiny bottles of paint that people use for decorating figurines uses in role playing (Warhammer and such, we used to have them at the bookstore where I worked), look at the names: tentacle pink, oozy green, dried blood red, fresh blood red, dragon green…. 😉

        • Lauri says:

That’s so funny! My niece and her husband paint those figures and play games with them. Unfortunately they live a 12 hour drive away from us, so I can’t see their figures or hear the colors! Tentacle pink!! Heeee!

  6. kimkiminy says:

Awww… there’s nothing like your pets all curled up and cozy, wrapped up in blankets.

  7. lurkertype says:

No matter what your home decor is, it’s always worth looking at b/c of the critters!

  8. LBeeeze says:

Crankberry sounds like a hip new energy drink.

Dogs, dogs, dogs…and a cat too!!!

  9. AmyH says:

Dads like helping and don’t care how messy the place is. I’m glad you gae him the chance to help. That’s way more important than the color of paint. 🙂

    • Lauri says:

Dad was so happy to be here. I’m so glad I mentioned it! I was musing about whether I liked the paint color or not and he said “That’s not my bailiwick. Just hand me a brush.” Who says “bailiwick”??? Lol!

  10. Laurie says:

That whole post about your industrious day and then the photos are of the pets slacking off. Oh, the irony! Sometimes I look at my cats loafing around when I have a mile-long to-do list and tell them, “Get a job!”

  11. crankypants says:

awwww Calli looks the way I feel in bed in the mornings! 🙂 she is so cute, and I love the Warm Butts #2 photo!

I used to call that band the Cranberries the Crankberries! bahaha!

Good for you on the painting. I’d just decided last night that after Thanksgiving I think I will clear out my dining room, paint trim and hang the damn curtain rod and curtains I bought a year or so ago. Not sure if it will be Thanksgiving weekend (I am meeting Maggie in Baltimore on Friday) but it will be that weekend or next. I need to start projects!

    Good job!

    • Lauri says:

Woohoo for meeting Maggie in Baltimore! (I just typed Blatimore…good grief, I can entertain myself with my typos for the rest of eternity).

It felt really good getting this project started. It’s been awhile since I did one!

  12. capnstephel says:

Heh, I’ve used a post hole digger before. There’s your random fact about me for the day.

You’re going to have to share pics once you finish the redecorating. You know that, right? 😀

    • Lauri says:

I will show pics of the crazy room when it is done! I’m liking it more and more! 😀

I have used a post hole digger, too! But it was a long time ago!

  13. Teagan knows where the largest warm mass is in the house. I’m still cleaning plaster dust. Venetian blinds are a pain in the ass to clean. I painted the bathroom door yesterday. I was exhausted so I didn’t finish the laundry room outside, lol. We’re going to Kevin’s mom’s house for both. She is only 15 minutes away instead of the usual hour and a half drive to and from.

  14. paikea says:

i like painting. i find i just LOVE colors as i’ve gotten older. i never used to notice them much before.

dogs. love doges too. super jealous! gorgeous beasties you’ve got there:) the kitty seems pretty happy:)

you’ll post a pic of the room when done? am now curious about color that wasn’t what you thought it was going to be but are fine with it. 🙂

  15. leendadll says:

I love the top one – the puppers looks like you woke him up, grumpy, from a deep sleep.

  16. GOF says:

I’ve never seen such contented looking dogs in my life Lauri….they are obviously very impressed by all your painting.

  17. Redscylla says:

Hooray for sprucing up! And I agree: dogs make such great accessories, regardless fo the season.

  18. aubrey says:

What time of day was the last picture taken? Those long golden bars of light make me think of 3-4PM, such a lovely time of day.

    Yay for contented pets!!

  19. geologywoman says:

crankberry…yes! Love it! And love the photos of the furry one snuggling. Aw….

  20. robpixaday says:

Hooray for getting things accomplished and for crankberry paint! LOL…this is a wonderufl post. You’ve got me all fired up to go DO something. and the pix are ADORABLE!!!

  21. pyrit says:

There you are! I been away from WP and now trying to catch up. Good to see you, and your furries! Ooooh!!!! That doesn’t sound right!!!

    Sooo, ahem.

Watcha doin’ fer turkey day? Having everybody and everydoggy at your house?
I got a few weeks of British/Irish invasion at my house. Hmmm, suddenly I’m working late at the office…
Nah, it’s not that bad, …but being able to get away helps!
